Notice

Hi, I'm glad you stopped by!

Stone Web Zone came about when:

  1. I accumulated a number of domain names and web sites.
  2. I couldn't decide which web site to put on the business cards.
  3. They all couldn't fit at once.
  4. I got tired of designing and printing new cards.

The Stone Image Story

This is the really informal version of the origins of Stone Image and Stone Image Ventures. Kind of a work in progress. It's not always easy to decide what to write.

I have been involved with computers for over 20 years. My first was an Atari 800XL, and I would write my own programs for it. But that is not the story.

In 1990 my husband's father died, so his mother called him home from Colorado to Dallas, Texas. One does NOT ignore an Imperial summons. Fortunately, I have always loved Dallas, so I had no objections. This is not really the story, either.

After moving to Dallas, I got to know my sister-in-law, Elinor. And I really got to know her computer, an IBM PC, which had a fascinating program called GEM Draw on it. I wasn't working yet, so I would play with her computer while she was at work, drawing graphics with this wonderful program. Elinor noticed my graphics.

One day, she came home and said: "Have I got a job for YOU!" (I have since learned to dread those words, as well as the way she rocks back and forth on her heels as she utters them.) This JOB was to design a custom graphic for our church program that she was in charge of producing. I was happy to do it.

This, then, is the story.

Through word-of-mouth we acquired customers who wanted us to design and print custom invitations, programs, souvenir books, etc. There was virtually no such thing as ready-made computer graphics at that time, so we were happy to provide this unique service. We used the profits from our projects to buy our desktop publishing equipment. (Today, we try not to use ALL our profits buying "new toys"!)

In the meantime, I got my own PC and proceeded to learn Windows inside and out. (I got to where I would customize the configurations in Win 3.1, crash it almost weekly, and have to rebuild from the DOS prompt.) This began the computer repair division of our business. Many computers and operating systems later, I know Windows almost as well as Microsoft!

In 1994 I created our first logo, and we registered our business name, "Stone Image".

In 1998 I created our first web site, Stone Image Dallas. Even though the content is updated from time to time, I can't bear to change the original design.

In 2004, We decided to differentiate our offline and online activities, so we registered an additional business name, "Stone Image Ventures" and are now providing web design services, as well as web hosting. I am responsible for this online division. (Well, I guess I asked for it when I built our first web site ...)

Our primary client base is comprised of individuals, small businesses, and especially home-based business. We are dedicated to providing highly personalized service that is supremely affordable.

Welcome to our family!
